COVID-19 PANDEMIC – Gaspesia Events Cancels Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100

Percé, Québec, April 3, 2020 – Events Gaspesia today held a virtual press conference to officially announce the unthinkable: the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100, its flagship event whose 5^th edition was set to take place on Percé’s majestic playground next June 19-21, has been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is with a heavy heart, but with the profound belief that it is the most responsible decision in the current pandemic context, that we came to the conclusion that the 5^th edition of the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100 could not take place this year. Ensuring a secure environment for our participants and partners will always be a priority for us.”

This great celebration of trail running was poised to welcome to the Gaspé region more than 1,000 runners from the province of Québec, Canada, the United States and Europe. The School Edition, which gathers local young runners, remains until further notice. It will be held on June 19 as planned, or at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, according to the evolution of the situation in Québec and in respect of public health recommendations.

Registration Postponement Terms                  

All registrations recorded to this date will be automatically transferred to next year’s edition of the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100, which is set to be held June 18-20, 2021 in Percé. Athletes that will not be able to make it next year will be offered an equivalent credit for any Gaspesia Race series event until January 1, 2023.

“We truly hope that this flexible alternative, although impacting Gaspesia Events’ financial situation, will bring some sort of comfort to the disappointment of registered athletes. It is unfortunately impossible for our organization to reimburse completed transactions as we have already invested most of these funds into this year’s edition which was just around the corner.”

No cancellation yet for 2020’s remaining events

Gaspesia Events still has not made a decision about its other events for the 2020 season, including:

• Circuit régional de vélo de montagne de l’Est-du-Québec (July to October)
• Enduro Gaspesia (July 11-12, 2020 – Gaspé)
• Gaspesia SUP Fest (July 25-26, 2020 – Coin du Banc)
• Gran Fondo Forillon (September 5, 2020 – Forillon)
• Gaspesia 100 MTB Marathon (September 6, 2020 – Gaspé)
• Marathon Gaspesia (October 11, 2020 – Gaspé)
• Trail Polaire Mont-Saint-Mathieu (December 2020) – Proposed date for the March 2020 event that was postponed amid COVID-19 concerns.

As for the UTG100, we will follow the authorities’ guidelines and recommendations in due time.

New events in the incubator for 2021  

Gaspesia Events is pleased to announce that in March 2021, two new events will join its line-up for endurance and outdoor sports lovers. The first one will offer trail runners the opportunity to discover or rediscover Percé and the UTG100 paths in the winter, while the second one will be calling fatbike and cross-country skiing enthusiasts in a stage-race adventure. More details will be communicated by summer.
