2020 Gaspesia 100 MTB Marathon cancelled

Percé (Quebec), July 20, 2020 – It is after careful consideration and several consultations that Gaspesia Events announces that the Gaspesia 100 Mountain Bike Marathon will not take place next September.

“Although we are counting on the theoretical backing of the socio-health authorities to hold such a gathering and that our protocols have passed the test during the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100 special covid held last June, we do not feel we have a good wind to organize a viable event in the current context. ”

– Jean-François Tapp, founder and director of races

The condensed calendar of the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes, the difficulty of recruiting volunteers, the ability to attract a critical mass of cyclists in the Gaspé in the current context and the pressing time to deliver such an event with an organization weakened by recent cancellations reinforce the decision to skip the year 2020. The Gaspesia 100 MTB Marathon is the only 100 mile mountain bike race to be held in Canada since 2015.

This is the fourth event to be canceled by Events Gaspesia due to the covid 19 pandemic after the Mont-Saint-Mathieu Polar Trail, the Ultra Trail Gaspesia 100 and the Gran Fondo Forillon. The 2021 calendar of major events for the organization will be build this fall!

Please welcome the Gaspesia Marathon in October!

Recognized as the smallest international Marathon in Quebec, the Gaspesia Marathon will welcome road runners on October 11 at Coin du Banc near Percé. The only running event still on the program in Eastern Quebec, the event will host a maximum of 100 runners for each of the 6 distances on the event program. Already more than 100 bibs have found takers so far. Unfortunately, due to closed borders, the Gaspesia Marathon will not attract runners from international this year!

Registrations

Athletes can register for the Gaspesia Marathon now at gaspesia.org. Should it be canceled, equivalent credits, good for any Gaspesia Events event within the next two years, will be offered to bib holders.
